World Climbing Refugee Athlete Support
The IFSC Executive Board has announced the award of the first World Climbing Refugee Athlete Support to Afraa Mohammad. The World Climbing Refugee Athlete Support programme has the objective to offer refugee athletes the opportunity to prepare for and participate in high-level competitions and to offer National Federations (NFs) the opportunity to identify and support a limited number of refugee athletes living in their countries to prepare for and participate in high-level competitions.
To be eligible for the programme, athletes must have proven high-level competition results and must be refugees in their host country, recognised by UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency. The policy is by design generic to reflect the continuously changing conditions of refugees. There is no call for application, but the applications are open all year.
