A consistent number of future Paris 2024 Olympians are expected to climb and compete at the penultimate World Cup event before the Games.
Two IFSC World Cup events are scheduled to take place in the span of one week in France – first in Chamonix, from 13 to 14 July, then in Briançon, from 17 to 19. Both events will feature Lead and Speed competitions and will serve as the lead up to the Olympic Games Paris 2024, kicking off on 26 July.
A consistent group of future Paris 2024 Olympians are registered to compete in Chamonix, including home favorites Sam and Zélia Avezou, Paul Jenft, Manon Lebon, and Capucine Viglione.
Also competing in Speed are Italy’s reigning world champion Matteo Zurloni and his teammate Beatrice Colli, who secured her ticket to the Olympics at last month’s Olympic Qualifier Series event in Budapest, Hungary.
After winning women’s Lead gold at last year’s event in Chamonix, legendary climber Kim Jain of South Korea will try to grow her medal tally once more. At 35 years old, Kim is one of the most experienced athletes on the circuit and holds the record for the most World Cup gold medals in the Lead discipline with 56.
Also returning after a successful campaign in 2023, Great Britain’s Toby Roberts will look for his third career gold in a Lead World Cup – the previous two being in Chamonix, last year, and Wujiang, China, at the beginning of this season
The World Cup event will take place over two days following the postponement of Speed qualifications due to adverse weather conditions. All semi-finals and finals, along with Speed qualifications, will be live streamed on the IFSC YouTube channel.
News and updates about the event will be available on the IFSC website and on the Federation’s digital channels: Facebook, Instagram, X, TikTok, LinkedIn, and exclusively for the Chinese audience, Douyin and Weibo.
