The Vice President of the International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC), Kobinata Toru, visited the President of the Japanese Olympic Committee Yamashita Yasuhiro, member of the International Olympic Committee since January 2020 and Judo Olympic Champion at Los Angeles 1984.
During the meeting, Kobinata underlined the IFSC’s commitment to deliver a positive debut for Sport Climbing at Tokyo 2020, appreciating the strong cooperation with the Tokyo Organising Committee and other stakeholders, and thanking those who contributed to the successful postponement of the Olympic Games.
Yamashita once again congratulated the IFSC for the inclusion of Sport Climbing in the Tokyo 2020 sports programme, expressing his wish to see a Japanese climber on the Olympic podium.
Despite the ongoing difficulties, both parties confirmed the will to work together in the near future and beyond the Olympic Games.
