The IFSC has been informed by the Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the IFSC World Cup Curitiba that a recent incident occurred at the venue for the event set to take place on 16-18 May in Brazil.

A fire, that occurred accidentally during work to the roof, caused structural damage to part of the venue. Thankfully, there are no reports of any injuries occurring among the staff or workers present.

The LOC, under the leadership of Janine Cardoso, is working closely with local authorities and technical teams to assess the damage and implement a full reconstruction plan. This includes rebuilding the affected slab area and extending the protective cover, which has already received positive feedback for its design and functionality.

We would like to assure all our stakeholders, partners, and participants that the event will proceed as scheduled, with no cancellations or rescheduling foreseen.

Cardoso said: “We, as the LOC, reaffirm our full commitment to delivering a successful and memorable event, and we are confident that this situation can and will be managed efficiently and professionally and the event will proceed as intended.”

A revised project plan, including an updated venue design and cover structure, will be presented in due course. Meanwhile, logistical and bureaucratic processes are already underway to facilitate the swift resumption of construction activities.
