KIRSTY COVENTRY ELECTED AS IOC PRESIDENT: A NEW ERA FOR OLYMPIC SPORT

IFSC President Marco Scolaris and the entire Climbing community welcome Coventry’s leadership and vision for the future.

The IFSC congratulates Kirsty Coventry on her election as President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). As a two-time Olympic champion and a dedicated advocate for athletes, Coventry’s leadership marks a new chapter for the Olympic Movement, one that promises inclusivity, innovation, and the continued growth of emerging sports.

Coventry has served in multiple leadership roles at the IOC and other sports organisation, including the position of Vice President of the International Surfing Association from 2017 to 2024. Her deep understanding of athletes’ needs and commitment to youth engagement align with the IFSC’s mission to expand the global reach of Climbing and inspire the next generation of climbers.

Under her leadership, the IFSC looks forward to further collaboration with the IOC to strengthen Climbing’s presence in the Olympic program and enhance opportunities for athletes worldwide. Coventry’s passion for sport, coupled with her progressive approach to governance, offers exciting prospects for Climbing and all sports aiming to engage broader audiences.

IFSC President Marco Scolaris said: “A great day for the Olympic Movement, a great day for sport, a great day for the world. A young mother and a champion from Africa has become the President of the IOC. Kirsty Coventry has been elected at the first round: what a message of unity and powerful hope! The Olympic journey to build a better future continues.”
