MEETINGS MIDPOINT MARKED BY II IFSC ATHLETES’ FORUM

Climbing and Para Climbing athletes from around the world attended today's second Athletes’ Forum, gaining insights into the IFSC Commissions’ meetings.

Members of several IFSC Commissions’ gathered in person and online over the past two days to debrief this year’s learnings and debate topics that may come into effect in the next season, while key outcomes were presented to the attending athletes.

Coming together in Torino, Italy, home of the IFSC headquarters, the Media & Marketing, Medical & Anti-Doping, Para Climbing, Risk & Finance, and Rules Commissions all met for discussions, as well as the recently-formed Sustainability Working Group.

The Athletes’ Commission also met, with members Shauna Coxsey, Alannah Yip, and Michael Piccolruaz having the opportunity to intervene in person during other Commissions’ meetings.

The II IFSC Athletes’ Forum signalled the halfway point of a week-long schedule of forums, meetings, and workshops aimed at progressing the sport for athletes, National Federations, and all stakeholders involved.

The IFSC Executive Board met shortly after the Forum to discuss the days and vote on amendments and recommendations that came from the meetings.

IFSC President Marco Scolaris said: “Our athletes are constantly striving for the top, and at the IFSC we take the lead from our climbers. Bringing our community together, sharing knowledge and experience, moving forward, and maximising the potential we have as a sport is essential.

It is important to reflect on a very significant year for Climbing after our second Olympic appearance and the inclusion of Para Climbing in the Paralympics LA28 programme. This will help shape our future in the short and long term, and equally as important is telling our athletes the outcomes from our meetings so they can also plan for their future as the centre of what we do.”

A busy week will come to a close tomorrow, with the focus moving on to the National Federations with the third edition of the IFSC Climbing Summit.

The virtual meeting will cover a host of topics, from the Olympic Games to Athletes’ Health, Para Climbing, and Sustainability, also featuring external speakers such as Francesco Ricci Bitti, President of the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations, and Niccolò Campriani, Sports Director of LA28, as well as IFSC Board Members and athletes.
