OLYMPIC CHAMPION MIROSLAW NOMINATED FOR LAUREUS AWARD

Speed climber and Paris 2024 Olympic champion Aleksandra Miroslaw has been nominated for the Laureus World Action Sportsperson of the Year Award.

On the 25th anniversary of the Laureus World Sports Awards, Poland’s Miroslaw’s achievements have been recognised in a year where the climber claimed the first ever standalone women’s Speed Olympic gold medal, smashing her world record in the process.

The 31-year-old from Lublin, Poland, lowered her world record twice in Paris taking the world’s best time down to 6.06s – that in turn was also an Olympic and European record.

Taking some time to concentrate on the Olympic Games, Miroslaw only attended one IFSC Speed World Cup in 2024, in Wujiang, China, but also winning gold in the March event.

On her nomination Miroslaw said: “It is a huge privilege and an honour to be nominated in Laureus World Action Sportperson of the Year by Laureus Academy. I am very excited and happy to be nominated with such amazing athletes. I believe that it is big step forward, not just for me, but also for our sport.”

IFSC President Marco Scolaris said: “Aleksandra is the best of the best Speed climbers. Breaking records and winning World Cups on a regular basis for years culminated in her well-deserved Olympic gold medal. Now the nomination for Laureus Award nomination, I can only applaud her, again and again.

“This nomination also brings our sport once more into the spotlight. Speed as a standalone climbing event at Paris 2024 was a pure spectacle, and now the world is the stage for our sport.”

Voted on by the 69 sporting legends of the Laureus World Sports Academy, Miroslaw will be up against Skateboarders Yuto Horigome from Japan and Arisa Trew from Australia, Snowboarder Chloe Kim from the USA, Surfer Caroline Marks from the USA, and Mountain Biker Tom Pidcock from Great Britain.

The 2025 edition marks the 25th anniversary of the Laureus World Sports Awards and will be celebrated at an awards event in Madrid, Spain on 21 April.

It is the second Laureus Award nomination for a Climbing athlete after Tokyo 2020 gold medallist Alberto Ginés López was nominated in 2022, and the fourth time Climbing has been recognised with nominations.

News and updates about all IFSC events will be available on the IFSC website on the Federation’s digital channels: Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X, Threads, TikTok, YouTube, and exclusively for the Chinese audience, Douyin and Weibo.
