PARA CLIMBERS MOVE THROUGH INNSBRUCK QUALIFICATION

Second IFSC Para Climbing World Cup of the year has it's finalists

The second of three 2024 IFSC Para Climbing World Cups began today at the Kletterzentrum Innsbruck, Austria as over 200 climbers from around the world tackled Lead qualification hoping to progress through to finals and stay in with a shot of taking a medal.

With the news that the LA28 Local Organising Committee has put forward Para Climbing as a recommendation to be added to the Paralympic programme for their edition, the excitement to see the climbers with physical and visual impairments to range and power impairments back on the wall in action was high.

WHAT THEY SAID:

Luke SMITH (GBR) – Men’s RP3

“The first route was tough, challenging, very overhanging with small edges. I made a silly mistake when I came off and it’s just on to the next one and give it my all.”

Solenne PIRET (FRA) – Women’s AU2

“It was super fun, super cool and I really enjoyed the route. It was a hard one, but it was fun. The second route was the hardest, it was quite big moves and you had to press. After that you were in the overhang and in the roof, and to get out it was quite hard. Then you had slopers and I really felt it.”

Angus TAYLOR (AUS) – Men’s AL2

“The routes were so well set. They flowed, lots of great moves. There was a lot of tension on the second route required and crimping power which I am fond of but not expecting in a comp style route.

“It’s my first international so I had zero expectations. I think I did ok. A little bit more sleep might have helped with the power. The quality of the setting is just exceptional. The moves make sense but they provide the exact amount of challenge. You can read what needs to be done but you need to use your body in a create way to move between the holds.”
