VEDDRIQ LEONARDO IN THE LEAD FOR THE WORLD GAMES ATHLETE OF THE YEAR AWARD

The Paris 2024 gold medallist totalled 22,861 points in the first phase of the race.

Indonesia's Speed climber Veddriq Leonardo topped the voting at the end of the first phase in the race to be crowned The World Games Athlete of the Year 2024.

Since the race opened on 9 January, the six-time IFSC World Cup winner totalled 22,861 points, placing ahead of China’s wushu athlete Tong Xin – second with 12,533 – and Estonia’s flying disc athlete Kristin Lätt – third with 11,575.

On Wednesday, 22 January vote counts have been reset to zero, and only the 10 most voted athletes in the first phase continued in the race.

HOW TO VOTE

Votes may be cast via The World Games website, with a limit of one voting session per 24 hours. Each voting session must include votes for two candidates: the first-choice candidate will get two points, the second choice will get one point.

Voting will close on 31 January at 12:00 (UTC), and tallies will be displayed in real time throughout the entire campaign.

ROAD TO CHENGDU

The 12th edition of The World Games is set to take place from 7 to 17 August in Chengdu, China. Climbing will make its sixth consecutive appearance in the sports programme, with six medal events in the Speed discipline scheduled between Thursday 14 and Saturday 16.
