The IFSC European Championships will award the first sets of medals tonight in the women’s and men’s Speed events.
The 2024 edition of the IFSC European Championships officially commenced on Sunday, 25 August, in Villars, Switzerland, where 15 Para Climbing sport classes competed for the titles of continental champions.
A full set of Climbing qualification rounds took place in the following days, setting the stage for an exciting second half of the week, filled with semi-finals, finals, and celebrations!
Boulder
Italy’s Giorgia Tesio and Ukraine’s Ievgeniia Kazbekova finished in joint first place at the end of the women’s Boulder qualification round, as both led their respective group with four tops and five zones.
In the men’s round, Great Britain’s Maximillian Milne and Slovenia’s Anze Peharc took the top of the table in group A and B respectively. Milne topped all five boulders, while Peharc finished with four tops and five zones.
Also making it into Boulder semi-finals were Paris 2024 Olympians Camilla Moroni of Italy, Zélia Avezou of France, Laura Rogora of Italy, Sascha Lehmann of Switzerland, and Sam Avezou of France.

Lead
Kazbekova also placed first in the women’s Lead qualification round, and despite not having two separate groups, she also had to share first place with another climber. In fact, both Kazbekova and France’s Hélène Janicot finished with 48+ in the first qualification route, and topped the second one.
Climbing on home turf, Lehmann and fellow Swiss athlete Jonas Utelli ruled the men’s Lead qualification and placed first and second in the ranking, despite not topping any of the two routes. Coming from a series of very positive results in his first three World Cups, Max Bertone of France placed third.

Speed
Poland and Italy have dominated the women's Speed qualification was dominated by Poland and Italy, with the former taking first and second place thanks to Natalia Kalucka and Patrycja Chudziak, and the latter following in third and fourth with Beatrice Colli – also a Paris 2024 Olympian – and Giulia Randi.
Kalucka, Chudziak, and Colli all raced below the seven-second mark: Kalucka in 6.83 seconds, Chudziak in 6.98, and Colli in 6.99.
Italy took centre stage also in the men's round, as another Paris 2024 Olympian, Matteo Zurloni, finished first with 5.05 seconds. Former Speed world champion and Zurloni's teammate Ludovico Fossali followed in second, stopping the clock at 5.13, while Leander Carmanns of Germany broke into the top three with 5.19.
