WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS HOST CITY BERN TO RETURN ON IFSC CALENDAR FOR NEXT FOUR YEARS

The capital city of Switzerland will host a yearly appointment at Bern Expo from 2025 to 2028.

The calendar of the International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) World Cup Series 2025 will be unveiled on 30 September, and following the presentation of the first-ever Climbing World Cup event in South America, the IFSC is proud to announce that it has signed a four-year agreement with the city of Bern, Switzerland.

The capital city of Switzerland will return on the IFSC calendar with a yearly appointment to be held at Bern Expo, an exhibition centre at walking distance from the PostFinance Arena – the venue of the IFSC Climbing and Paraclimbing World Championships in August 2023.

Switzerland has a long-standing tradition of hosting Climbing and Para Climbing events, including this year’s European Championships in Villars, or the opening World Cup event of the season, which took place in Meiringen for six times between 2016 and 2022. Also, since the foundation of the IFSC, three other Swiss cities hosted Climbing World Cup events: Greifensee, Grindelwald, and Zurich.

"The World Championships 2023 in Bern raised the benchmark for quality in our events. Today, we are proud that the legacy of that event continues,” said IFSC President Marco Scolaris.

“The Expo organizers contacted us just as the World Championships were being held and one year later, we are able to confirm our return to the Swiss capital, in an exhibition venue setting within walking distance of the arena that hosted our flagship event."

Bernhard Aregger, General Manager of the Swiss Climbing Federation, added: “In the summer of 2023 we were able to experience a world-class Climbing show from up close at the World Championships in Bern. A fantastic event that contributed a lot to the awareness and popularity of Climbing among the population. I am all the more pleased that the IFSC World Cup Series will take place in Bern for the first time in 2025. I'm sure it will be an all-round great experience and will make the sport even more popular."

News and updates about all IFSC events will be available on the IFSC website, and on the Federation’s digital channels: Facebook, Instagram, X, TikTok, LinkedIn, and exclusively for the Chinese audience, Douyin and Weibo.
