The Olympic Games Paris 2024 will take place in the French capital city from 26 July to 11 August.

With a Speed event and a combined Boulder & Lead event in Paris, the total number of medal events for Sport Climbing will double from two at the Tokyo Games, to four in Paris. The Olympic Games will also see a significant increase in the number of Sport Climbing athletes participating in comparison to the Tokyo Games, from 40 athletes in Tokyo, to 68 in Paris.

The inclusion of Sport Climbing at the Olympic Games illustrates the fresh approach that Paris 2024 would like to add to its Games: showcasing a modern sport practised in an area with a young population in order to promote maximum participation. Along with the Olympic Aquatics Centre in Saint-Denis, the Le Bourget Sport Climbing venue is the only sports facility to be built specifically for Paris 2024. Looking well beyond the Paris Games, this facility represents a response to a need and an expectation in the Seine-Saint-Denis area.

Five climbing walls will be used during the Games: one indoor for warming up, and four outdoor walls – three for competitions and one set aside for competitors to warm up on.

The indoor facilities will provide a lasting legacy for the Games in a department that has a major shortage of sports facilities and was ranked 103rd out of 105 departments.

Legacy

The indoor facilities created for the Games will be left as a legacy for the city of Le Bourget and will be able to be used on a daily basis by local clubs, associations and residents. The temporary Climbing walls set up could, in the same way as the temporary swimming pools for the Games or the La Concorde urban sports structures, be redeployed once the events have been completed at sites that are to be determined, benefiting local associations, clubs and communities.
